Abstract
1,135,427. Electric resistance furnaces. K. A. LANG. 7 April, 1966 [12 April, 1965], No.15529/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Division H2] A furnace comprises an elongated resistance heating coil 26 and stacks 31<SP>1</SP> . . . 34<SP>1</SP> of elongated metal leaves each connected at one end to a point on the coil. The coil 26 is located in grooves of a refractory tube 25 formed of two semi-cylindrical halves. The tube is surrounded by another refractory tube 37 and insulation 38, 39, 40 within a cylindrical housing 16. Terminals comprising metal straps 31, 32 and 33 34 are welded to the ends and intermediate points of the coil and the stacks are welded to the straps to form flexible extensions of each terminal which is led out of the housing 16 to terminal blocks 44. The intermediate terminals allow portions of the coil to be raised to a higher temperature. Two furnace units are removably mounted in a housing 13 on drawer mechanisms above controls for the heating elements. The ends of the tube 25 are closed by plugs 71 supporting a quartz tube 85 passing through the tube 25.
