Abstract
1,135,312. Yarn cleaners. ZELLWEGER Ltd. 7 Feb., 1966 [19 Feb., 1965], No. 5280/66. Headings DID, D1F and D1J [Also in Division H1] A switching arrangement for auxiliary units controlled upon operation of an electronically operated yarn cleaner on winding machines, includes a reed switch that is arranged in, and is adapted to be actuated by, a stray magnetic field of the yarn cleaner, and has contacts which make and break the circuits of the auxiliary units. In Fig. 1 a magnetically operated reed switch 10 has its contacts closed by the magnetic field B1 produced by a parmanent magnet 11. When a yarn fault has been cleared and the yarn tension has risen to a predetermined value, the switch 14 closes to energize solenoid 12. Solenoid 12 weakens the magnetic field B1 but not sufficiently to cause the reed switch to open. When a yarn fault is found an electromagnet 7 operates to cause a cutter 6 to sever the yarn 1, and the stray magnetic field B3 from the electromagnet 7 then weakens the field on the reed switch 10 sufficiently to permit the reed switch to open. As a result, the motor 4 is de-energized and a yarn brake 3 stops revolving. The cutting of the yarn 1 causes the feeler 13 to swing outwardly and so open switch 14 and de-energize solenoid 12. The impulse required to cause the cutter 6 to operate is of short duration after which the electromagnet 7 is also de-energized. This leaves the reed switch 10 under the sole control of the field B1 of the magnet 11 which, on its own, is sufficient to re-close the reed switch contacts. In Fig. 9 (not shown) the solenoid 12 is replaced by a permanent magnet (17) carried by an arm rigid with the feeler 13, the magnet (17) moving to a setting in which it weakens the field of the permanent magnet 11 whilst there is tension in the yarn 1, but swings away when the yarn is cut, to a setting in which the magnet (17) does not weaken the permanent magnet 11. Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates how a lamp (16) can be associated with each reed switch 10 and is extinguished up when the yarn cleaner of its associated machine has operated. A drive for the winding spindle is switched off by a contactor when the yarn cleaner responds.
