Abstract

[Also in Division H4] A method of making di-pole stock comprises feeding continuous webs of metallic foil, slitting the web lengthwise into strips, feeding wrapping material so that the strips and the wrapping material engage, and enclosing the moving strips in the moving wrapper to form continuous di-pole stock of a flat or flattish cross-section. In one arrangement, Fig. 2, webs 5 of aluminium foil are fed from reels 6 through a slitting unit 7 to a pair of feeding rollers 10, 11 where they are placed, together with other slit aluminium webs from other slitting units 7, on a paper web 2. An upper paper web 1 passes from a reel 17 past an adhesive applying roller 19 to a guide roller 18 which directs it into contact with the upper layer of foil strips; the di-pole stock then passes a heating device 20 and a final pair of pressure rollers 10A and 11A and is wound on to a stock drum or bobbin (not shown). The stock has the cross-section shown in Fig. 1, with strips 4 of aluminium foil sandwiched between paper webs 1 and 2 which are gummed together at the edges 3. In a modification the foil strips are wrapped by a single paper web which is folded to the shape shown in Fig. 9.
