Abstract
1,134,210. Winding and reeling. SCHWERMASCHINENBAU ERNST THALMANN VEB. 15 Feb., 1966, No. 6601/66. Heading B3E. [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for coiling rod comprises a laying device to lay the rod in a rotated coiling device as the laying device is reciprocated vertically, the speed of the motor or motors driving the laying and coiling devices being reduced at the end of each movement of the laying device to compensate for the increased diameter of the coil being wound. Rod is directed by a laying tube 1 first into the space between an inner circle of coiling arms 11, upstanding from a coiler bottom 18 rotated by a motor 19, and an outer circle of catchpins 13 also upstanding from the coiler bottom 18, the space also being defined by a coiler support plate 12 above the bottom 18 and a cover 14 swung upwards by ram 15 partly to cover the circle of catchpins 13. After the first few turns have been laid in the said space, the cover 14 is pivoted out of the way and the plate 12 is raised above the catchpins 13. Coiling continues with the laying tube 1 moved upwardly, guided by a curved segment 9, about its pivot 4 by a drum cam 5 driven by a motor 6, so that a single layer coil is formed on the arms 11. When the tube 1 reaches its upper point a signal is sent to the motors 6, 19 to change their speeds, as programmed, to suit the new layer diameter. The tube 1 then descends under control of the cam 5. The change of speed is effected at each lower and upper point in the travel of the tube 1. When the end of the rod to be coiled is reached a signal switches off the motor 19, through a time switch a brake is applied to stop the coiling device and the tube 1 is stopped at its lowest point. A lifting device 24 then raises the coil which is pushed on to a conveyer by means 10. Cooling air may be blown on to the coil during cooling. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the movement of the tube 1 is effected by an hydraulic cylinder supplied by a pump driven from the motor 19 driving the coiling device.
