Abstract

1,134,182. Continuous casting. ASHMORE, BENSON, PEASE & CO. Ltd. 31 Jan., 1966 [1 Feb., 1965], No. 4249/65. Heading B3F. In a continuous casting process in which a plurality of open-ended moulds 12-15 are fed with molten metal from a common ladle 16 via tundishes 20, 21 strand guiding means is provided beneath each mould to turn each strand through an arc into a horizontal path at least two of which paths are at different levels. The axes of the moulds may be vertical and the mould may be arranged in pairs and the strand guiding means being arranged to guide the strands of one pair to horizontal parallel paths at a common level different from the corresponding level or levels of the other pair or pairs of moulds. Straightening machines 22-25 for straightening the curved strands at their respective levels are provided.
