Abstract
1,133,384. Rotary-piston I.C. engines. KARL SCHMIDT G. m. b. H. March 11, 1966 [March 25, 1965], No. 10913/66. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston I.C engine pistonof the kind which has a substantially triangular or tricuspid profile and is mounted for planetary rotation within a housing having an inner surface of bi-arcuate epitrochoidal profile and wherein the piston is of cast light metal, the piston in its highly stressed regions, which include the slots at the piston corners and the slots in the end faces of the piston for the sealing elements, and the bearing region of the piston is subjected to treatment to alter the structure of the piston metal to improve resistance to wear in such regions. Preferably these regions are subjected to a pressing treatment. Alternatively these regions may be subjected to local heat treatment or hardening alloying components may be diffused into the piston metal at these regions.
