Abstract
1,133,103. Tube bending machine. HILGERS MASCHINEN UND APPARATE BAUANSTALT m.b.H. 9 March, 1966 [15 April, 1965], No. 10368/66. Heading B3E. A tube bending machine comprises a tube clamping jaw 13 which is moved into the tube clamping position by hydraulic fluid supplied to a cylinder 14 at low pressure, and an arrangement which, when the jaw is in the clamping position, connects the cylinder 14 to a source 27 of high-pressure hydraulic fluid enabling a small cylinder 14 to exert a large clamping force. The low-pressure fluid is supplied by a pump 20 which also supplies fluid to operate the remainder of the machine. When the jaw has been moved into the clamping position a valve 23 is actuated by a pressure relief valve 22 and automatically shuts off the low-pressure supply to the cylinder 14. A motor 26 driving a highpressure pump 27 is simultaneously started to supply high-pressure fluid which exerts a high clamping force on the jaw 13. When the tube is clamped fluid pressure is supplied to one of a pair of cylinders 18, 19 to rotate a shaft 11 through a chain 17. This causes an assembly comprising the cylinder 14, the jaw 13, and a bending pattern (12, Figs. 1 and 2) to which the tube is clamped, to rotate drawing the tube through a slideway (16) and bending it to the profile of the pattern (12). In another embodiment (not shown) a pressure intensifier is used as a source of high-pressure fluid.
