Abstract

1,132,235. Moulding corrugated tubing. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 May, 1966 [20 May, 1965], No. 21506/65. Heading B5A A corrugated flexible .tube, e.g. of plastics material, is produced by extruding a plain tube 1 about a stationary mandrel 3, mechanically expanding the tube by passing it over diverging portion 5 of the mandrel and further expanding the tube to mate with the corrugated interiors of mould halves 11 by air under pressure delivered via conduits 8 and 9 and slots 7 in cylindrical portion 6 of the mandrel. Slots 7 may be rectilinear or helical or alternatively the slots may be replaced by perforations. Preferably mould halves 11 form part of a double belt moulding machine.
