Abstract
1,147,385. Forming pipe branches; seaming non-metallic sheet material. H. KELLER. 20 Jan., 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 3015/67. Headings B5A and B5K. [Also in Division F2] A pipe branch is made of synthetic thermoplastic material e.g. P.V.C. or polyethylene is made by forming in a first pipe section (1) a heated groove which corresponds in shape to the intersection of the required branch pipe with the first pipe, the groove being made with a heated die. The end of a branch pipe (3) cut to the corresponding shape and heated is then pressed into the groove and an opening cut in the first pipe section either before or after cooling. The first pipe may be supported on a core and the branch pipe supported externally and/or internally while the plastic cools. The material of the branch pipe may also be injection moulded on to the tube using a suitably shaped mould. Webs to support the branch pipe may also be provided as in Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown).
