Abstract

1,131,752. Overhead cranes for unloading ships. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 13 June, 1967 [16 June, 1966], No. 26978/66. Heading B8B. A dockside crane has a cantilevered portion of crab-supporting boom 16 which is supported by pivoted uprights 13 so that it can be swung upwards about a point A to clear ships' superstructures. The crane runs on rails 19 and the crab supports a container lifting frame 17. The control cab is mounted on the crab and the boom section 15 cannot be raised until the crab is on the fixed section 12. To this end the controls for raising the boom may be mounted on the fixed section or interlocks may be provided. The crane is operated by hydraulic motors supplied by a constantly running electric motor.
