Abstract

113,158. Carter, S., and Hawkins, R. E. Feb. 21, 1917. Valve-gear.-In an engine having radial cylinders revolving about a stationary crank-shaft 1, the exhaust valves 12 are actuated from a stationary eccentric 20, which acts on valve rods 25 through ball-bearing rings 32, 33, the inner ring 32 being fixed to the eccentric. The valve rods 25 slide radially in a ring 36 secured to the revolving crank-case, and are connected to levers 26 each having a set-screw 31 bearing against the end of the valve stem 14. Regulating.-The eccentric 20 is formed with a sleeve 21 having slots engaged by the screws 42 which secure the crank-shaft 1 to a part 22 of the engine frame, so that the eccentric can be turned slightly to regulate the portion of the circle at which the exhaust valves open and close. Valves.-The supply of liquid or gaseous fuel to the cylinders is controlled by a distributing- valve 36, which rotates in contact with a disk 48 having an inlet pipe 47 and an are-shaped recess 51<1>, Fig. 7.
