Abstract

A grate, particularly for burning refuse, and comprising a series of grate sections 1 pivoting about transverse axes 3, has side labyrinth seals formed by the co-operation of discs 6 carried by the grate sections and concentric with the axes of the grate sections with recesses 7 in the combustion chamber wall. A cover may be provided to form a labyrinth seal independent of the chamber wall. The grate sections may be driven through the discs or their journals.
