A wall or door of solid fuel burning apparatus has a panel 4 comprising a frame 5 and spaced horizontal strips 6 of transparent or translucent material arranged to overlap in echelon formation, burning spaces for the entry of secondary air. The strips 6 may be arranged to pivot about their longitudinal axes under the control of a thermostat in the flue.
