Abstract
1,130,867. α - Methyl - α - amino - # - (hydroxyphenyl)-propionic acids. MERCK & CO. Inc. 19 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 46808/66. Heading C2C. α - Methyl - α - amino - # - (hydroxyphenyl). propionic acids, e.g. L-methyltyrosine, are prepared by converting an optically active azide of formula wherein R is H or C 1-5 alkyl and R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-5 alkyl, into the corresponding isocyanate which is then hydrolysed. The azide starting materials may be prepared as in Specification 1,130,869.
