1,130,594. Arc welding. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ELEKTROSVAROCHNOGO OBORUDOVANIA. 5 May, 1966, No. 19930/66. Heading H5H. [Also in Division B3] Apparatus for welding articles with a closed line of weld in which an electric arc is struck between two portions 9, 10 to be welded together, comprises two spaced coils generating a radial magnetic field which moves the arc along the weld line, the coils being formed of dismountable radially separable sections 1, 5 and 2, 6 permitting the removal of the article from the apparatus. The sections are half round and corresponding sections 1, 2 and 5, 6 are interconnected by members 3, 4 and 7, 8 to form two circuits in which the magnetic fields produced by members 3, 7 and 4, 8 are equal and opposite. Pipes 9, 10 are clamped in jaws 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and 12, 12<SP>1</SP> which can be moved together on guides 13, 14. Alternatively, the ends of each section are joined together to form four separate circuits and the sections are incorporated in the jaws. Each coil may comprise more than two sections.
