Abstract

In a process of developing the potential crimps of a multifilament yarn of composite filaments by subjecting the yarn to a heating or swelling treatment, the yarn before or after such treatment is passed through a fluid jet so as to interlace the filaments and form them individually into convolutions. One or both treatments may be repeated more than once. The crimps may be developed by passing the yarn through hot water, steam, or heated air, or by using as a swelling agent an aqueous solution or emulsion of phenol, a cresol, benzyl alcohol, phenol sulphonate, or oxalic acid. The two components of the composite filaments may be arranged side-by-side or in an, eccentric sheath core relationship and may be composed of polyamides, polyesters, polyester-ethers, polysulphonamides, polyacrylonitriles, polyolefins, polyvinyl chlorides, polyureas, and copolymers and blend polymers thereof.
