Abstract

Method involves heat treatment of the threads obtd. from parent patent both to fix the thread geometry and to provide adhesion between the filament surfaces. Pref. filaments of polyamide 6 are used, after treatment of the twisted threads in alkaline soln. pref. a 10 g/l aq. soln. of Na2CO3 for 20 mins. at 80 degrees C. Pref. the treated yarns are fixed for 45 mins. at 100 degrees C in steam, followed by 15 mins at 125 degrees C. Pref. the thread is dressed with silicone oil (e.g. RTM - Rhodorsil 47V 100) from a wetted roller during windup for storage prior to use. Produces a sufficiently coherent yarn for the previously used acrylic dressing to be omitted for many applications.
