Abstract
1,130,021. Recovering oil from silt. R. &. H. GREEN, and SILLEY WEIR Ltd. 23 Feb., 1966, No. 7871/65. Heading C5E. A method for removing oil from silt and other solids comprises the steps of placing the oilbound solids in a closed casing having means such as a lid for introducing the oil-bound solids into the casing, introducing steam into the closed easing to condense to form a body of condensate immersing the oil-bound solids, and agitating the body of oil-bound solids and condensate, the casing having an outlet for oil freed from the solids, the said oil outlet leading from the level of the top of the body of condensate. Suitable apparatus may comprise a perforated drum 2 open at both ends and mounted for rotation about its axis which is inclined to the horizontal, the solids being introduced by hopper 9 into the upper end, steam being introduced by jets 17 through the perforated wall, the freed oil leaving over weir 14 and the de-oiled solids leaving by outlet 19. Both inlet and outlet may be provided with two sluices, to be opened one at a time, to minimize loss of steam.
