Abstract

1,129,609. Containers adapted to be dropped from aircraft. DYNAMIT NOBEL A.G. 13 Dec., 1965 [12 Dec., 1964], No. 52901/65. Heading B8D. A container designed to withstand the impact of hitting the ground when dropped from an aircraft is formed of synthetic plastics material either from two superposed foil blanks, or a single foil blank folded in the middle, or a tubular foil, the edges at the open ends and/or sides being welded together. A body part 2, which may contain fuel, has further welds formed at 3 and 6, respectively, at either end to provide handles 4 formed with pockets 7. A rigid plastics tube 9 is inserted in the pocket 7, and an insert of cardboard or wood may be placed between the welds 3 and 6. A spout 11, welded to an aperture in the container and extending inside it, is kept closed by the pressure of the liquid in the container. Alternatively the walls of the spout may be adhered together. The tube 9 is removable from the pocket 7 and fits into the spout 11 to aid in filling and emptying the contents. The container may be of trapezium shape, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), rather than rectangular, and an envelope 12, of material similar to the container, may be welded to it, enclosing the body part 2, the space between the envelope 12 and the wall of the part 2 being filled with water to withstand impact. The envelope 12 may tightly enclose both the members 4, 7, formed at only one end of the container, and the body part 2, and be formed of a material of lower elasticity than the body part 2. In this instance the envelope is at no point secured to either the members 4, 7 or the part 2. The container may be spherical, Fig. 4 (not shown).
