Abstract

1,129,435. Dual controls for motor vehicles. O. VENTURINI. 2 Feb., 1967 [11 Feb., 1966; 14 Oct., 1966], No. 5017/67. Heading B7H. A dual control pedal unit mountable in a motor vehicle for actuation by a driving instructor comprises a hollow telescopically adjustable bar 1, 2, projecting spikes 16, 14 mounted at each end of the bar for insertion in the vehicle body, an elongate structure 23 projecting from the bar and carrying adjustable spikes 50, 57, two members 33 slidable along the structure 23 by actuating respective auxiliary brake and clutch pedals 46a, 46b, two flexible chain drives 27a, 27b connecting the slidable members 33 to rigid members 61a, 61b extending within the bar, and adjustable length links 70, 71 which carry means for attachment to the vehicle control pedals and are connected to the rigid members 61a, 61b by lever mechanism arranged such that depression of the auxiliary pedals 46a, 46b actuates the control pedals but depression of the control pedals does not displace the auxiliary pedals 46a, 46b. The auxiliary pedals 46a, 46b are carried by levers 45 which are pivotally mounted on a bracket 42 projecting from the elongate structure 23 and engage respective rollers 40 on pins 39 secured to each slidable member 33. The members 33 are slidable along guideways 31 in the elongate structure 23 and formed with numbered series of pairs of apertures 34 for adjustably attaching securing means 36 on the respective chains 27a, 27b. Levers 64a, 64b connected to the rigid members 61a, 61b are pivoted on a pin 66 mounted in a wing 65 projecting from the bar and are loaded by springs 83a, 83b. The links 70, 71 are connected to a second pair of levers 68 pivoted on the pin 66 and displaced by abutments on the levers 64a, 64b upon depression of the pedals 46a, 46b. The extremity 72 of each link 70, 71 carries clamping means 75 for attachment to the control pedals and a tread surface 78 whereby the pedals may be actuated by a driver undergoing instruction. The telescopic portions 1, 2 of the bar are adjustably connected by a pin 5 engageable with a series of holes formed in the bar portion 2 and identified by numbers visible through an aperture 6. End-pieces 3, 15 carrying the spikes 16, 14 are adjustably fitted to the ends of the bar and are interchangeable with alternative end-pieces arranged to suit a variety of vehicles.
