Abstract

1,128,235. Alkali metal salts of ampicillin. BEECHAM GROUP Ltd. 20 Feb., 1967 [3 March, 1966], No. 9260/66. Heading C2A. Alkali metal salts of α-aminobenzyl-penicillin and its epimers, are prepared by treating the penicillin in an organic solvent with a primary or secondary aliphatic amine, a cycloaliphatic amine or a heterocyclic amine to form a solution of the corresponding amine salt and adding an alkali metal compound to precipitate the alkali metal salt of the penicillin therefrom. Specified amines are ethylamine, diethylamine, cyclohexylamine, piperidine, N-ethylpiperidine and N-methylpyrrolidine. The precipitant is an alkali metal methoxide, iodide, phenoxide or thiocyanate or ethyl sodio-aceto-acetate. Reference is made under Section 9 (1) to Specification 1,060,034. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,060,034.
