Compounds of the formula wherein R 1 is a C 1-4 alkyl radical and either R 2 and R 3 is OH or R 2 and R 3 together signify an O atom are prepared by treating a compound of the formula or a compound of the formula wherein R 4 is a C 1-4 alkyl radical, in the presence of a lower aliphatic alcohol, with a Zn salt of a strong organic or inorganic acid or a complex or addition compound of one of these salts with a base to give one of those compounds I in which R 2 and R 3 together signify an O atom, and-when one of those compounds I in which each of R 2 and R 3 is OH is required-effecting alkaline hydrolysis. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the compounds I together with a suitable carrier. The compositions, which show cyclostatic properties, may be in a form suitable for enteral or parenteral administration.
