Compounds of the general formula (R<SP>2</SP>=C 7-9 alkyl or cycloalkyl - alkyl; Y= AlkNR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP> or C n H 2n -CHZ; R<SP>2,3</SP> = C 1-4 alkyl or NR<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP> = saturated heterocyclic group; Alk= C 2-4 alkylene, the free valences being located on different carbon atoms; n = 0-3; Z = group which completes a saturated heterocyclic ring containing at least one nitrogen atom and at least four carbon atoms, any such nitrogen atom being separated from the oxygen atom to which the amino-cyclic group is attached by a chain of 2-4 carbon atoms; R<SP>4</SP> = H, halogen or C 1-4 alkyl, alkoxy, alkanoyl or α-oximinoalkyl) and their acid addition salts are prepared by standard methods from (a) the appropriate phenol of the formula (b) a salicylaldehyde derivative of the formula or (c) an o-acylphenol of the formula (R<SP>5</SP>=C 1-4 alkyl). The above compounds possess antihistamine activity, and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
