Abstract

Periscopes.-The telescope of a periscope having an upper reflector a supported by a thin connexion c is so constructed that a conjugate image of the reflector is formed between the object glass d and the eye-piece m, and a diaphragm f is placed at the position of this image to cut off the light which does not proceed from the reflector. A positive lens c is provided in or close to the focal plane of the object glass to form the image of the reflector, and a projecting lens system g forms a secondary image which is viewed by the eye-piece m. The connexion c, of metal or wood, is slidable in channel-shaped blocks n containing springs to hold it in any position, its motion being limited by a removable stud p. A clip b on the back of the box which holds the reflector is provided to receive a leaf, twig, or other' natural object to disguise the appearance of the periscope.
