Abstract

108,315. Carvallo, E. March 2, 1915, [Convention date]. Periscopes. - The reflecting-surfaces take the form of curved mirrors, which, in addition to changing the path of the reflected pencil. constitute integral parts of the optical system designed to increase the field or the magnification. The arrangement shown by way of example in Fig. 2 consists of a concentrating lens L, placed between parallel convex and concave spherical mirrors M, M<1>. of which the mirror M gives in its principal plane for each distant point P a virtual image P<1>. The lens, at a distance therefrom of twice its focal length, gives a real image. P<1>, symmetrical with the virtual image. The second image is seen by the eve O in the mirror M<1>. which acts both as a reflector and as a magnifying element. The elements of the system are so chosen that aberrations due to the first mirror are compensated by those due to the second mirror, and a reference is given to a publication describing such calculations.
