Athletic overshoes. - A climbing iron for mountaineering comprises a pair of sole plates d hinged together at the toe f and extended through the waist slidably to engage clamp plates c hinged to a pair of heel plates b, which are jointed together at the rear of the boot. The sole and heel plates are provided with upstanding flanges e, i respectively, and have downwardlyextending tongues r, s stamped from them, those in the body of the plates extending transversely, and those at the edge of the plate being arranged longitudinally of the boot. The device is secured by means of a right and left screw p, and by straps engaging loops t.
