Abstract

1,127,302. Assembling mattress springs. PULLMAN (PATENT) PRODUCTS Ltd. 4 Oct., 1965 [2 Oct., 1964; 5 May, 1965], Nos. 40356/64 and 19045/65. Heading A4M. Helical upholstery springs 10 are assembled in parallel rows and are interconnected by means of crimp wires 11, parallel to the rows and having crimp portions 12 each of which comprises loop shaped in elevation as a U having a lip extending from the end of the free limb, the machine including spring feeding trays moved into the machine so that the crimp wires and the springs are received by the machine with the spring end coil overlapping the end coil of the preceding row, the crimp wires being then turned to interlace with the overlapping end coils and the trays withdrawn. The assembly is then moved a step forward and the portions 12 are clinched by anvils and rotary hammers. At the rear outlet of the machine a cropping mechanism severs the ends of the crimp wires.
