Abstract

Projectiles.-Relates to projectiles of the kind in which a driving-band of compresed paper or the like is secured between the body of the projectile and a clamping-ring or head. According to the invention, in order to prevent slipping of the band it is notched so as to engage with notches on the body of the projectile or with notches in the neck of the clamping-device. In the arrangement shown, the band A of paper, cardboard, or the like has notches on its internal periphery, the projections between the notches engaging in notches D in the neck of the clamping-head C. The inner part or shank C<1> of the clamping-device screws into the shell-body B, or may be otherwise secured. The driving-band A may be in one or more layers. The abutting faces of the band and the end of the body B may be serrated. Provisional Specification 8022/17 describes also the use of a driving disk of compressed paper or the like, secured to the bottom of the projectile by screws, rivets, or other suitable means.
