A latch for a sliding window comprises a plastics moulding forming abase 60 provided with fixing holes 61, 62, and a hook 64 integral with a wall 83, the latter being provided with a stiffening flange 81 which is interrupted at locations 82 defining an axis about which the wall 83 can flex to allow the hook 64 to resiliently engage a side rail (not shown) of a window pane. The wall 83 is also formed with stiffening ribs 84.
