Abstract

1,126,739. Metal cored building, sheets. H. H. ROBERTSON CO. 1 April, 1966, No. 14676/66. Heading B5N. An apparatus for making a building sheet having a metal core sheet 20 and fibrous covering layers 406, comprises conveying means for the metal sheet, means for coating it with metal adhesive 32, compressive bonding rolls (26a, 26b). for applying the fibrous covering layers while the coating is still molten, and means 55 for controlling the tension situated preceding the coating means and able to maintain the sheet at a predetermined tension between the bonding rolls. This tension control means preferably comprises a spring-mounted roller positioned to experience a force from the sheet, and means for electrically measuring this force and hence controlling the drive to the conveyer rollers. The apparatus may also comprise a crown roll 38 situated between the coating means and the bonding rollers, and the axis of rotation of this crown roll may be adapted so as to maintain the position of the metal core sheet substantially constant at the bonding rolls.
