Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the fluctuation so as to uniformize the thickness of a rubber sheet and consequently make it possible to gage down the sheet by a method wherein the amount of nip adjustment, which is determined on the basis of the rate of change in the thickness of the rubber sheet, is fed back to the adjusting mechanism of calender rolls. CONSTITUTION:The thickness of a rubber sheet W, which is formed by calender rolls 1a, is measured continuously with thickness meters 6a and 6b provided on a rubber sheet transferring line X near and at the back of a calender roll assembly 1 and just before a reeler 5 so as to successively input values measured with the thickness meters 6a and 6b in an arithmetic processing unit 7 in order to statistically obtain the rate of change (f) of the thickness of the rubber sheet W on the transferring line X by processing said measured values. On the basis of the rate of change of the thickness of the sheet, the amount of adjustment of the nip of the calender rolls 1a is determined. At the same time, the amount of nip adjustment is fed back to the adjusting mechanism 8 of the calender rolls 1a in order to control the thickness adjustment of the rubber sheet W. Thus, the reeler 5 can always reel up the rubber sheet W of a certain fixed thickness.
