Abstract

[Also in Division B3] A method of effecting a junction between a heat-exchanger &c. tube 2 and a tube-plate 1 comprises expanding the tube into a hole in the plate by means of an explosive 3. An electrically-fired detonator 3 may be used having a primary charge 3a and a base charge 3b, and the explosive force may be transmitted through a liquid, or a body 4 of plasticine or of polyethylene having a central recess 5, a flange 4a and a taper 4. Steel or aluminium tubes may be expanded in steel plates 1.
