Abstract

1,125,975. Determining dimensions. MASSINDUSTRIE WERDAU VEB. Aug. 11, 1966, No. 36022/66. Heading G1M. A measuring device for measuring the diameter of a moving workpieces 4 having an interrupted surface by means of a sensor 2, 3 comprises a sensor 2, 3 slidably disposed in a casing 1 for movement against the action of a spring 8 or against its own weight by means of a pressure medium, the sensor comprising a sensing tip 3 at one end and having a passage 10 which ends in outlet apertures adjacent the sensing lip for the pressure medium and is also connected directly or through a pressure amplifier with means 13 for locking the sensor in the casing at times when a workpiece surface is not within a predetermined proximity to the said outlet passages the movements of the sensor are measured by a pick-up 5. The pressure medium, preferably compressed air, is supplied through connection 6 to act on the sensor 2 to counteract the force of spring 8. The pressure medium flows through passage 9 to outlet passages 10. When the surface to be sensed runs under the outlet apertures 10 a back pressure builds up which releases the locking device 13 and when an interruption in the workpiece passes the outlet passages the pressure is released and the locking device is again brought into action.
