1,125,772. Chloroaliphatic carboxylic acid chlorides. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 July, 1966 [29 July, 1965], No. 32491/65. Heading C2C. Chloroaliphatic carboxylic acid chlorides are obtained by reacting the corresponding aliphatic carboxylic acids with chlorine and at least 0À2 moles of sulphur monochloride per mole of carboxylic acid at a temperature of at least 40‹ C. The sulphur monochloride used may be the compound itself or a precursor thereof, e.g. an organic sulphur compound, sulphur, sulphur tetrachloride or a mixture thereof, and the process may be carried out in the presence of a halogenation catalyst, e.g. ferric chloride, aluminium chloride, zinc chloride or tin chloride.
