Abstract

1,125,656. Preventing corrosion. DOW CHEMICAL CO. Jan. 2, 1967 [Jan. 3, 1966], No. 157/67. Heading C7E. [Also in Division D2] A process for treating the recirculation system of a hot alkali wood chip digester in continuous operation comprises injecting a chelating agent into the recirculation system to remove mineral deposits. The chelating agent may be ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid, ethylenetriamine penta-acetic acid, hydroxyethyl ethylene diamine triacetic acid, nitrilo triacetic acid and ammonium or alkali metal salts thereof. The chelating agent may be injected as an aqueous slurry or solution containing 10-45% weight of the chelating agent or it may be injected as a dry powder into the stream of liquid pulp.
