Abstract

1,125,385. Stacking steel joists. DEMAG A.G. 17 Sept., 1965 [29 Oct., 1964], No. 39801/65. Heading B8C. A course of structural steel joists 10 (fig. 3) with openings directed downwardly, to be added to a stack on an elevating table 6, is first assembled on a platform 3 in such relation that when the platform 3 is retracted horizontally the course falls on to the top course of the stack below in a nesting relation. The joists may be fed by a pusher 2, and located by a screw-adjustable stop 5. Alternatively the end of the stroke of the pusher 2 may be varied, the platform 3 (Fig. 4, not shown) retracting towards the pusher. A lifting device (16) (Fig. 8, not shown) with grippers for lifting a course may serve to produce a layer of two courses to be pushed on to the platform 3 simultaneously. Alternate courses may be inverted by a swing- ing arm (11) (Figs. 5 and 7, not shown) which may be provided with a magnet (14). The arm may deposit the course directly on the platform 3, or the course may be inverted and lowered before it reaches the platform (Fig. 6, not shown). Operation may be effected automatically under the control of limit switches, cams, punched cards or magnetic tape.
