[Also in Division F2] A hydraulic system for pivoting an obstetrical or surgical platform (50) about a transverse axis (54) includes a release valve 56 for releasing the hydraulic pressure acting on a ram 11 and a locking valve 18 disposed between a pump and the ram 11 and adapted to block the flow of hydraulic fluid in both directions. The release valve 56 is operated by a pedal 13 on the end of a pivoted lever 30 adapted to move longitudinally a spring returned element (32) (Fig. 4) adapted to depress a plunger (33) and open the valve. The element (32) is normally spaced from the plunger and the anti-clockwise and clockwise movements of the lever 30 from a medial position are determined by adjustable stops (43, 44) and cause the release valve to open by different amounts. The locking valve 18 is a needle valve and is operated by rotating a lever 26, and a ball detent (27, Fig. 3) locates the lever when the valve is closed. The platform (50) and support frame 53 are as described in Specification 936,579.
