Abstract

1493204 Boom swing braking systems MASSEY-FERGUSON Inc 18. Feb 1975 [21 Feb 1974] 6752/75 Heading E1F A vehicle, such as a backhoe, carries a boom support 14 mounted for swinging movement on a yoke 12 about an axis defined by pins 18 fixed to the support 14 and rotatable in the yoke 12. A pair of cylinders 22 (one only shown) is selectively energisable to swing- boom 20 in either direction about said axis. A boom swing braking system includes a brake disc 28 which is attached to the upper pin- 18 for swinging movement with the boom 20 and which co-operates with a caliper 30 fixed to the yoke 12. As indicated in the control circuit shown in Fig. 3 the caliper 30 is spring-biased to apply the brake. When the boom 20 is swung, due to selective actuation of the cylinders 22 by means of bidirectional valve 48, fluid pressure acts through line 32 to disengage the brake. The system also acts to apply the brake when the load overrides the boom 20.
