Abstract

1,124,641. Flexible hollow articles. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 20 Dec., 1965 [8 Jan., 1965], No. 860/65. Heading B5A. Flexible hollow articles are made by placing at least one length of textile material in the form of a yarn or monofilament coated with polyurethane prepolymer on the appropriate surface of a shaping former until the surface is substantially entirely enclosed thereby (i.e. leaving a number of small openings if and as desired), said surface corresponding to the interior surface of the hollow article, and crosslinking the prepolymer. The textile material may be a polyamide or a polyester and may be in the form of cord. The assembly on the former may be one layer of coated textile material, formed of abutting cord i.e. wound around the former preferably one continuous strip. The shaping former may be collapsible e.g. an inflated rubber bag, and may be treated with a release agent before applying the textile material. The polyurethane prepolymer preferably contains at least two terminal -NCO or -NCS groups in the molecule and a crosslinking agent e.g. methylene-bis-orthochloraniline may be added thereto before coating the textile material. Cross-linking may be achieved by means of a moist atmosphere. Coating of the textile material is preferably achieved by dipping.
