Abstract

Novel compounds of formulae <FORM:1124545/C2/1> <FORM:1124545/C2/2> where R1 is a C1- 4 alkylene group, R2 is a C1- 4 alkyl group, a phenyl group or a phenyl group substituted with 1-3 hydroxy, alkyl or halogens or with a methylenedioxy group, and R3 is a C1- 4 alkyl group are prepared by reacting 4-cyano-isothiazoles of formulae <FORM:1124545/C2/3> and <FORM:1124545/C2/4> wherein R4 is an alkali metal atom, ammonium or amine salt cation or an equivalent of an alkaline metal earth metal cation, and R5 is R4 or R3, with an a -haloalkylacyl sulphide of formula R2COSR1 hal and when R5 is R4, treating the reaction product with an alkylating agent to introduce the R3 substituent. These compounds are used as fungicides.ALSO:Fungicidal compositions comprise compounds of formula: <FORM:1124545/A5-A6/1> or <FORM:1124545/A5-A6/2> wherein R1 is a C1-4 alkylene group; R2 is a C1-4 alkyl group, a phenyl group or a phenyl group substititued with from 1 to 3 hydroxy groups, alkyl groups or halogen atoms or with a methylenedioxy group; and R3 is a C1-4 alkyl group with carriers and diluents, which may contain in addition other fungicides such as cupriferous fungicides, inorganic sulphur containing fungicides, mercury containing fungicides, stanniferous fungicides, thiocarbomates, thiurams, pentachlorophenol, chloronitrobenzenes, thiocyanodinitrobenzene, hexachlorobenzene, quinone derivatives, phthalinide derivatives, 2, 4-dinitro-6-octylphenyl crotonate, N-dodecylguanidine acetate, 3, 5-dimethyl-1, 3, p 5-2H-tetrahydrothiadiazine-2-thione, antibiotics and 2, 6-dichloro-3, 5-dicyano-4 phenyl-pyridine.
