Abstract

1,124,183. Electro erosion. V. L. KRAVCHENKO, and N. G. SHUBIN. 15 March, 1966, No. 11247/66. Heading B3V. [Also in Division H1] An impulse transformer for electrospark machining has a multi-turn primary winding and a single-turn secondary and, together with a tool holder and support for the workpiece, is so located in a vessel containing liquid that the liquid acts both as a coolant and as the working medium. In the arrangement shown, the tool 15 is connected through bus-bars 16 and the vessel 13 to a secondary consisting of top plate 7, casing 7<SP>111</SP> and inner bushing 7<SP>1</SP> whose upper end 711 supports the workpiece 9. A toroidal primary winding 3 on a core 1 of stacked ferrite rings is located in the casing 7111 and is insulated by epoxide compound 2, 10. A socket 6, soldered to the primary 3, receives a plug 4 connected to the high voltage lead 5. The liquid is pumped through an insulating bushing 17 and flow-regulating shutter 33 to the working region and is extracted through channels 18 and drain 19. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the workpiece support is in two parts with co-operating spherical surfaces for alignment and the bus-bars (30) are connected directly to the top plate (7) of the secondary. The primary assembly is mounted on ebonite or fluorine plastics supports (22), (23) within the secondary easing (7<SP>111</SP>) and the high voltage lead (26) is led into the vessel in a pipe (27) which also acts as a liquid overflow. Separate valves (31), (32) control liquid level and draining.
