The housing 10 of a suction cleaner comprises two pan shaped shells 18, 19, e.g. of metal, and an intermediate plastics member 20 dividing the housing into suction and exhaust compartments and supporting a suction fan 45 and its driving motor 25. Grooves 76, 77 formed in the member 20 receive the mounting member 75 of a dust bag 27, and an opening 79 for receiving a suction hose connector 80 is formed in the flange 21 of the member 20 which is interposed between the shells 18, 19. Also formed in the member 20 is an exhaust passageway 84 having at its outlet a filter 87 and an exhaust grid 31. A reel 28 carrying an electric supply cord 29 is supported within the exhaust compartment 23, and a foot operated switch 95 controls the electric supply. Within a well 101 formed in the flange 21 is a device 110 for indicating when the dust bag 21 is filled. The device 110 comprises a partly hollow rotary drum having- a solid eccentric portion 111 which normally maintains the drum stationary. When, however, the dust bag 27 is filled the suction increases within the suction compartment 22 into which the well 101 depends and causes air to flow through the well 101, via inlet 115 and outlet 104, at sufficient speed to act upon a spiral vane 114 on the drum 110 to rotate the latter to empose an indication thereon, through a window 107, warning that the condition of the dust bag should be checked. Integral formations 68 to 72 are formed on the plastics member 20 for supporting suction cleaner tools when the apparatus is not in use.
