Abstract
A powder mixture for forming sintered metals comprises a metal powder such as iron, a dry organic lubricant and approximately 0.2% by weight of a dry inorganic oxidic compound having a mean particle size of less than 1 micron. The oxidic compound may be at least one of the group: silicic acid, iron oxides, titanium oxide, zirconium oxide, in an amount of 25% by weight of the organic material which may be stearic acid, metal soaps, long chain alkones and alkenes, or long chain esters, amides and amines. Alloy forming oxides such as iron oxides, nickel oxides and chromium oxides which are reduced during sintering may also be added.
