Abstract
1,123,454. Forging. PROLIZENZ A.G. 9 March, 1966 [9 March, 1965], No. 10347/66. Heading B3H. A strip swaging machine reduces the thickness of strip moving transversely between a pair of synchronously reciprocated pistons 11 carrying dies 10, the pistons being moved towards each other by fluid pressure generated in chambers 17 and 14 by plungers 18. The plungers reciprocate within oscillating bearings 20 by virtue of their eccentric mounting on rotating shafts 22. The pistons are urged apart by springs 15 or by appropriate hydraulic or pneumatic mechanisms. Hydraulic fluid is pumped into the chambers 17 by a pump 36 through non-return valves 38 and 39 or 54, excess pressure being released by valves 40 and 37. An hydraulic accumulator 55 may be provided, if desired. Lines 52 return the fluid, which also acts as a lubricant, from the bearings 22. The dies 10 are provided with adjustable stops 28 and 29 to limit their movement towards each other, and are shaped (Fig. 3, not shown) to produce step-by-step reduction in the thickness of a strip. Cooling channels are provided in the die supports. The strip may be fed to the machine directly from a continuous strip casting unit. When wide strip of, for example, 1000 mm. width is swaged the pistons 11 may be formed with oval cross-sections.
