Abstract
1,122,625. Feeding sheets. RANK XEROX Ltd. 2 Sept., 1965 [30 Sept., 1964], No. 37590/65. Heading B6B. Sheets which are separated sequentially from the top of a stack by suckers 365 and placed between suction belts 414 and an idler feed roller, are passed through a caliper device which detects the presence of two or more superposed sheets and causes a device to strip the superposed sheets from the belts 414. The belts 414, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), have perforations 415 therein and are mounted on a driven roller 417 and an idler roller 420, and a suction chamber 401 is arranged within the belts to co-operate with the lower runs thereof. The caliper device comprises an enlarged central portion 422 on the roller 420, and a roller 439, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), on an arm 437 which is pivoted about a shaft 435 supported on a fixed base 436. The roller 439 is urged towards the portion 422 of the roller 420 by a spring 438, and is adjusted relative to the portion 422 by a depending lever 437a on the arm 437 engaging a stop-screw 444 on the base 436. When two superposed sheets pass between the roller 439 and the enlarged portion 422 of the belt roller 420, the roller 439 and arm 437 are rocked to allow an actuator arm 434 on the shaft 435 to close a switch 9LS and thus operate a solenoid SOL-3, Figs. 2 and 3. An arm 432 on the solenoid then rooks a shaft 427 having a number of reject fingers 426 secured thereto, so that the fingers move downwardly below the lower run of the suction belts 414 and strip the superposed sheets from the belts. The rejected sheets fall into a reject tray beneath the belts.
