Abstract

1,121,890. Barrel for weapons. RHEINMETALL G.m.b.H. 6 May, 1966 [15 May, 1965], No. 20094/66. Heading F3C. A barrel for a weapon comprises an outer barrel member 1 supporting therein for relative longitudinal movement thereto a bore tube 2 defining the forward end of the chamber 11 of the weapon such that the chamber 11 of the weapon is variable in length to accommodate propellent charges of corresponding dimensions. The relative movement is effected by a nut 9 housed in the outer barrel member 1 and cooperating with a thread 10 of the bore tube 2. The nut 9 is provided with a toothed section 13 for engagement with a driving pinion (14, Fig. 2, not shown), the driving pinion being operated by a crank drive (15, Fig. 3, not shown) and being connected thereto by a universal joint. The relative movement may also be effected hydraulically, the outer barrel member 1 forming a cylinder and a piston being attached to the bore tube.
