Abstract

[Also in Division B8] In a moulded fibrous pulp egg container 10 wherein two rows of egg pockets (P) are defined between side and/or end walls (12, 14) (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) and partition structures (20) extending between alternate high (22) and low (24) and partial side and end wall posts (16), the container 10 is formed from a blank of fibrous pulp deposited on a suction die from which, after partial drying, it is drawn by suction, via ports 56, into cavity 52 of a lower die 48. The container is thereafter compressed against an upper die 50 whereby depending pocket forming protrusions 58 thereof engage and enlarge the roughly formed dished pockets of the blank to form the partition structures (20) by pressing the blank pocket side walls (26<SP>1</SP>) (Fig. 1, not shown) against lower die projections 54 to form lower wall portions 26 with the upper portions of the blank pocket walls being engaged between rollers 66, provided with bevelled edges and carried by the die protrusions 58, and being thereby compressed together to merge into vertically extending upper partition wall portions (36), (Fig. 3, not shown) of a thickness preferably corresponding to that of the separate lower side wall portions 26. The vertically extending partition wall portions (36) comprise tab like extensions (Fig. 6, not shown) provided with upper (28) and side (30) edges. The upper die 50 is provided with exhaust ports 74 to insure separation from a pressed container 10 which ports 74 may also be directed to cavities 64 containing the rollers 66 whereby fibrous fragments may be expelled.
