Abstract

Articles are produced from non-risable moulding material by compressing in a preliminary mould to form a blank having recesses, preferably conical, and then compressing in a final mould having vent holes communicating with the recesses of the blank through a covering layer, which is placed in position in the final mould before insertion of the blank. During precompression, grooves connecting the recesses are also pressed into the blank. These grooves may be of arcuate or V-shaped in crosssection. The recesses are preferably pressed together and closed during the final moulding, and if the covering layer is impermeable to gases so that openings are necessary for communication between the vents and recesses, the moulding material may be pushed to extend at these points to the outer surface of the covering layer.
