Abstract

1,121,597. Connecting thread ends. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 28 June, 1966 [29 July, 1965; 17 Sept., 1965], No. 28897/66. Headings D1F and D1W. Apparatus for the knot-free connection of thread ends, comprises a nozzle 21 supplied with gas under pressure through valve 3, a resonance plate 18 arranged facing the nozzle, the distance between the nozzle and the resonance plate being adjustable by displacement of either or both along a common axis, a piston 7 arranged to be actuated against the action of a return spring 8 by pressure of gas in passage 6 between the valve 3 and the nozzle 21, a clamping device actuated by the piston and formed as two U-shaped flap members 11, 12 for shielding the blowing zone, thread end clamping points 16 in the clamping device, lateral cover plates 28 for the blowing zone, and notches 32 in said cover plates for positioning the thread ends, the notches being substantially aligned with the clamping points 16 when the clamping device is in the clamping position, the dimensions of the piston 7 and spring 8 being so chosen in conjunction with the clamping device that, in operation, the clamping becomes effective first and then the actual blowing pressure is built up. Each U-shaped member 11, or 12 comprises a pair of arms joined at the top and pivotally mounted at 15 or 14, with one pair being pivoted by piston rod 9 of piston 7 and being drivingly connected to the other pair - for example by toothed segment or by .. Clamping points 16 may be rubberlined. The apparatus may be in the form of a hand tool as shown or may be permanently fixed to a machine with yarn grippers automatically feeding the yarn ends into the apparatus and switching on valve 3.
