Abstract
Grain solids are recovered from spent liquor from the production of grain whisky by filtering under pneumatic pressure a liquor/draff mixture of the process so as to remove suspended grain solids as well as draff and thereby reduce the suspended-solids content of the spent liquor, and concentrating the solids-reduced spent liquor by evaporation. The filtration should provide in the solids-reduced spent liquor a ratio of dissolved to suspended grain solids of not less than 3:1. According to an embodiment, filtering is carried out in a three stage, rotary-disc vacuum filter.
